Thames Formwork were asked by Aggregate Industries to develop a reinforced concrete solution that would allow a new 100m concrete tunnel to be installed as a liner within an existing brick built tunnel system under the Wolverhampton Road. The brick tunnel system needed to be strengthen as part of ongoing improvement works.
We designed a hybrid Doka / Ischebeck falsework system that could me moved along inside the existing tunnel whilst using a specially designed self-compacting concrete mix. The tunnel was constructed despite being constantly full of approx. 0.5m of water by utilising a bespoke dewatering system.
